Parents Are Connected Night a Success

Wow and thank you! Tonight is a wonderful example of true Trailblazer spirit. We had a wonderful turn out for our K-2 Parents Are Connected night (or PAC). Our event began in our Cafe with refreshments and fellowship and ended with parents and children engaging in the learning and teaching process together! Our K-2 teachers presented critical literacy skills to support students in mastery of and efficiency in reading. Parents were given resources in English and Spanish to take home for use when reading and working with their child. Ms. Little, Ms. Milham and Mr. Gordon were our teacher leaders for our Kindergarten parents. A Kindergarten classroom was set up in stations for students to take their parents through and participate in many Daily 5 activities. Ms. Bethel and Ms. Bishop were our teacher leaders for First Grade. They shared the Cafe reading structure and reading strategies for parents to refer to when reading with children. Ms. Parker and Ms. Chesser were our teacher leaders in Second Grade. They presented the reselling star for non fiction texts and the Common Core standards for reading and understanding texts. Students and parents engaged in reading texts, shared reading and partner reading. Check out these amazing pictures of learning in action!

Now it's time to ENGAGE!  Parents and students worked through literacy activities together during centers.  Our students became the "teachers" of their parents guiding them through how to complete an activity and sharing with them why the activity supports their learning.
