Just an update...

Track 1 and 3 students enjoyed the cultural arts performance of Jack and the Beanstalk. The question and answer session after the performance allowed the students a "behind the scenes peek" at how the "magic" of the show was created. Students were curious about how the Giant was able to tower above the character Jack. The cast members of the show allowed the students to see the stilts that the actor wore to play the character of the Giant effectively. Additionally, the cast demonstrated how they made thunder as a sound effect. Thank you PTA for sponsoring this performance for BRES!

Case 21 began this week for grades 2-5 on tracks 1-3. Students participated in the new assessments for reading, math calculator active and math calculator inactive. Case 21 is similar to the NC End of Grade assessments in its format and question types. The student information gathered from the Case 21 assessments will support teachers in making data based decisions regarding instruction as we go into fourth quarter.

Last night was our last Jersey Mike's Spirit Night! Last night Ms. Goodson and I visited with many families as they ate in or came in to purchase take out. It was great to see the Pendergrass family, the King family, the Scarpetti family and several others come in for dinner. Thanks to Mr. Tart who popped in to support BRES by ordering Jersey Mike's take out! A big thank you goes out to Jersey Mikes at 10-10 & the Food Lion intersection for hosting a month long of BRES Spirit Nights! A huge thank you goes out to our PTA for organizing and partnering with Jersey Mikes for our March Spirit Nights!

Speaking of the wonderful PTA, it's true...we are set to get our shelter on the 3-5 playground within the next few weeks. Our PTA has worked hard to build the Capital Campaign Fund. The Capital Campaign monies were designated for a shelter. The funds were matched by a county grant and within the next few weeks construction will begin our shelter. Picnic tables will be purchased for the shelter area. Additionally, the PTA has purchased matching umbrellas for the picnic tables on the K-2 playground. A BIG thank you goes out to everyone for their hard work on the PTA and for all of the donations to make the Capital Campaign a success for the students and staff at BRES!

Round 2 of School Assignment is in full swing! Parents and families still have the option of participating in round 2 and exercising school choice. Round 1 families that were accepted into Banks Road Elementary School should have received their notification from WCPSS and a track assignment card from the Front Office. If you have not received your colored card from us, please call the front desk and speak with Ms. Stephenson at 890-7333. We are excited to have new students and our their families joining our Trailblazer Family!

Whew! Just another week where we are blazing the trail to success!
