Common Core Parent Information

Last night BRES offered the first information session on the Common Core. Beginning in July the learning and teaching process will "look" different at BRES. Different is a GOOD thing! Different is exciting! The new curriculum offers standards that are rigorous and challenging. Teachers will embed the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy (RBT) into instruction and students will have the opportunity to demonstrate learning in various ways.

Our staff is excited and ready for the Common Core. We have spent a great deal of time on teacher workdays, staff meetings or early release days reviewing the curriculum, reflecting on current instructional practices and preparing materials to support student learning in the classroom. We have been given guidance and support from WCPSS and from the NC Department of Education in the form of information, webinars and additional curricular resources.

Be on the look out for additional parent information sessions about the Common Core in the month of May. The following is a link to the Common Core website that you can explore to learn more about the Common Core initiative. http://www.corestandards.org/ You can also visit the Wake County Public Schools website at www.wcpss.net and click on the Common Core icon.
