Welcome to 2012-2013!

We successfully closed out the 2011-2012 school year with many classroom performances and celebrations including our 5th Grade Celebration and Awards Ceremony.  The new school year is just days away for Tracks 1, 2, and 3.

The first week of July teachers and staff members will be in and out of school attending staff development sessions on content for the new Common Core, their specialty areas and in house staff development on literacy and rigor.  Staff will also have time to prepare their rooms for a new set of students.

You may notice some changes in our building for the new school year.  Our foyer now has a seating area for parents and visitors to our campus.  Our glass display case will soon hold the BRES Mission, Vision and Value Statements, photos of our school community members and activities and achievement data.  You may also see new faces in our hallways and in classrooms.  We are so excited to welcome new staff to our BRES learning team.

Ms. Sonntag's Class Utilizes 21st Century Skills

Ms. Sonntag's class premiered three "movies" to parents, family members, and special guests. Students incorporated reading, writing and technology skills to complete their movies. Movie goers were treated to popcorn and lemonade to enjoy throughout the premier event. Congratulations to the class for their hard work and mastery of skills!

Last Day of School Celebrations

The last day of school always brings mixed feelings. Today we held the 5th grade celebration with classes on Tracks 3 and 4. Ms. Blackmon, Ms. Camerino, and Ms. Daniel bid best wishes, congratulations and farewell to their students with smiles and tears. We had a wonderful turn out of families and friends that beamed with pride as their children walked up to receive awards and certificates. We thank you for a wonderful year and are pleased to send this group of young men and young ladies onto middle school! We would like to thank our PTA for providing the refreshments and the beautiful personalized cakes. Here are a few pictures of the 5th grade celebration:

Celebrating Learning with Culminating Activities

Classes throughout the building today celebrated with their learning and mastery of skills with special activities. Ms. Milham's and Ms. Little's kindergarten class performed songs for parents and family members. The celebration ended with an icecream sundae bar!

Ms. Hall's students are published authors! Students in class proudly shared their books with their parents and family members. Students worked through the writing process to create their final drafts. The stories were the published and bound. Look at the picture below for a glimpse of the final product.

Field Day Changes

Due to the extreme temperatures we are having this week, we will conduct a modified field day for students tomorrow on Tracks 2 and 4.  K-2 students will have field day from 9:15-10:30 and 3-5 from 10:30-11:15.  Some stations will be moved to the gym and we have increased the number of water stations outside for students.  Please call the school if you have any questions about these changes.

Updates

It's here!  We are in the final countdown of last days of school. So much has happened in the last few weeks that I need to catch you up on the wonderful learning and teaching going on here at BRES.

First Grade track 4 celebrated their research projects with a culminating Geo-Animal Safari in the Media Center.  Zookeepers created a writing piece that showcased their content knowledge, writing skills, technology and 21st century skills.  Ms. Sinnott, Ms. Glasgow, and the students welcomed parents and family members to view the geo-animal projects, see the research reports, and ask the zookeepers questions about their selected animal.  Students were so proud of their accomplishments (and so were the parents!)  Look at the pictures below for a glimpse into the activities.

Congratulations to all of the students for putting together wonderful projects that demonstrate their learning!

5th Grade Celebration Track 1

The BIG day came yesterday as parents and family members celebrated a year of learning with their children.  Students filed in to the ceremony as the audience gave a standing ovation for their work, dedication and accomplishments this school year.  Students received awards such as the Presidents Academic Achievement Award, Presidential Fitness Awards, the Trailblazer Award and the Student Improvement Award.

Many thanks go out the parents who continually gave encouragement and support to their children this school year, as well as for their overall support of BRES.  Many thanks go out to the teachers who supported this class in various ways:  Mr. Tart, Ms. Mathis, Ms. Foxworth, Ms. Regan, Ms. Rutherford and our assistant principal Ms. Goodson.  All of their hands touched and supported the learning environment of the classroom.

Additional thanks go out to our PTA who once again planned and executed a beautiful 5th grade celebration complete with cake and refreshments.  The events of the morning were beautiful and we could not have done it without you.

Congratulations again to our 5th grade students for their work and accomplishments this school year.  You are bound for success in middle school and beyond!  Here are a couple pictures of the celebration.
